The brief
I adored writing feature articles for Running in Heels. Alice Revel sought out English speaking writers living in various European destinations, and I answered her call.
Boy am I glad I did – I was a freshly expatriated Australian 20-something, ambitiously searching for a job and not getting anywhere. But the day I got Alice’s spreadsheet with content ideas was a beautiful one.
Throughout 2009–2015, there were thought piece starters, fashion designers to profile, restaurants and spas to review…I’d be writing for free, but that was totally fine. Genuinely no complaints, it was six or seven years of trying hot new Stockholm hair salons, the Grand Hôtel’s spa and freshly launched beauty products for free. And sometimes writing about the state of migration politics, living in a new city or changing attitudes toward the female body on screen.
